Atlas Insurance PCC Limited converted to a Protected Cell Company on 1 November 2006. In taking this decision the Board of Directors was spurred by the success achieved by this type of company in other captive insurance domiciles.
This conversion was made possible by the Companies Act (Cell Companies Carrying on Business of Insurance) Regulations 2004. These Regulations complement the Insurance Legislation, which was instrumental in attracting a number of international insurance management companies and insurers, including captives to Malta since accession to the European Union.
Atlas Insurance PCC Limited is the first authorised Protected Cell Company in Malta which provides a direct writing facility into Europe avoiding fronting arrangements. A cell in Atlas may be managed by a management company or by Atlas itself. Malta offers a very favourable tax regime for cells writing risks situated outside of Malta.
Our cell facility is suitable for small or medium sized entities and members of trade, industry or professional bodies wishing to insure own risks and small or medium sized non-affiliated insurance operations. Large multinational companies may also find the facilities attractive for insuring operating units separately within different cells.
